Traditionally used by Native American cultures for its potential benefits in stress relief, improved mood, enhanced focus, and may even have some antimicrobial effects due to its smoke when burned properly. 

Begin by setting an intention to purify the space, person, or item. Open windows and doors to let negative energy leave. Ignite the tip of the sage or palo santo stick, pointing it downward toward the flame. Allow it to burn for a few seconds, then softly blow it out to let the smoke drift. Circulate through the area, waving the smoke over it with your hand or a feather. If the smoke dissipates, relight the smudge stick as necessary. Express gratitude and affirm positive thoughts. You may also choose to offer prayers for blessings. Start at one corner of the lowest level and guide the smoke up and down, then proceed to the other corners, repeating the process. Go to the room's center and gently fan the smoke over the furniture and belongings. Then, guide the smoke along the windowsills and doorframes. Continue this method in each room, progressing upwards through your space. After completing all rooms, smudge any entryways to your home. Remember to always be cautious and ensure all embers are extinguished after smudging.
